The rules for using EdgeTime's ice board and marketplace — in plain language.

The short version

EdgeTime does two things: it shows you public ice times across the GTA, and it gives members a place to resell spare ice. Two things to know up front — the ice times are collected from arena websites and can be wrong, so always confirm with the rink; and when ice changes hands, the deal is strictly between buyer and seller. EdgeTime is the noticeboard, not the seller, and never handles the money.

What EdgeTime is

EdgeTime (“EdgeTime”, “we”, “us”) is a free service for the Greater Toronto Area with two parts:

  • The board — an aggregated view of public skate, shinny, and stick-and-puck sessions, collected from arena and municipal websites.
  • The marketplace — a place where signed-in members list spare or permit ice they cannot use, so other skaters can buy it directly from them.

By accessing or using EdgeTime, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Your account

Browsing is open to everyone. To post a listing you sign in with Google (or, for some accounts, email and password).

You are responsible for activity under your account, for keeping your login secure, and for the accuracy of what you provide. Accounts are for individuals — do not share them or impersonate anyone. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or are used for abuse.

The ice board

The board is a best-effort convenience, assembled automatically from third-party arena and city schedules. Those schedules change constantly, and our copy of them can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong.

Always confirm a session with the arena before you show up. EdgeTime does not run these sessions, cannot guarantee they will happen as listed, and is not responsible for a wasted trip.

The marketplace

The marketplace lets members advertise ice to other skaters. Here is the most important thing to understand about it:

EdgeTime is only the venue. We are not the seller, buyer, broker, agent, or escrow. We do not own the ice, set the prices, verify the listings, take a cut, or handle any payment. Every transaction is a private arrangement between the two people involved.

If you post ice

When you post a listing, you agree that:

  • you actually hold the ice and are allowed to transfer or resell it — check your arena’s permit rules first, as some do not allow it;
  • the details are accurate, and the contact information is yours to share, knowing it will be public;
  • you will keep the listing current — mark it pending or sold, or remove it, once the ice is gone;
  • you will not post anything false, misleading, spammy, illegal, offensive, or that infringes someone else’s rights.

We may edit or remove any listing at our discretion, including ones that look fraudulent, stale, or against these rules.

If you buy ice

Deals are entirely between buyer and seller. EdgeTime does not verify listings, identities, arenas, permits, prices, or whether a transfer is even permitted by the facility, and we do not handle payments, refunds, or disputes.

Do your own due diligence: confirm the slot and the permit-transfer rules with the arena, and settle payment directly with the other person. Anything that goes wrong with a transaction is between the two of you.

Acceptable use

Use EdgeTime for finding and trading ice — not for anything else. You agree not to:

  • scrape, harvest, or bulk-download the site, or hit it with automated traffic;
  • use contact details from listings for spam or marketing, or for anything other than arranging the specific ice on offer;
  • attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the service or its security;
  • use EdgeTime to break the law or anyone’s rights.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting a listing, you grant EdgeTime a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and distribute that content as part of running the service. You are responsible for your listings and confirm you have the right to post them.

The EdgeTime name, design, and the board’s presentation are ours; the underlying schedule data belongs to the facilities it comes from.

No warranties

EdgeTime is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that the board is accurate or complete, that listings are genuine, that the site will always be up, or that any ice you find — public or for sale — will actually be there. You use EdgeTime at your own risk.

Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, EdgeTime and the people behind it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for anything arising out of: inaccurate or missing ice information; any dealing between buyers and sellers; or your use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changing or ending things

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of EdgeTime at any time, and we may remove listings or restrict accounts that break these Terms. You can stop using EdgeTime whenever you like and ask us to close your account.

We may also update these Terms; when we do, we will change the date at the top. If you keep using EdgeTime after that, you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and any disputes belong to the courts of Ontario.
